Martin Bigum
Solo exhibition by Martin Bigum
Martin Bigum has exhibited his works widely in Denmark and abroad, but this upcoming exhibition will be his first in Norway. In the fall of 2024, we at Høyersten Contemporary started representing Martin Bigum in Norway. We are very much looking forward to introducing Bigum to Norway and marking the collaboration.
For the exhibition, Bigum has created a completely new series of paintings and drawings. In his works, Bigum thematizes the human experience we have in common. Longing, creating, personality, loss and courage. With his certain, distinct brushwork and use of color, Bigum shows us the world around us in a dreamlike light, where meaning is condensed, the world is refracted and emerges more clearly. In his artistry, he alternates between art history from the first half of the 20th century and popular culture from the latter half. And in this exhibition there are particularly clear nods to both the Norwegian Munch and the Danish Willumsen. Bigum is a great colorist and aesthetician, but also a fabulating narrator.
