Overview

REJOICE!

Høyersten Contemporary is coming to Oslo with a new exhibition by Nikolai Torgersen.

We have long desired a physical presence in Oslo, and we are launching that now with this temporary initiative.

And not least: Nikolai Torgersen's art is finally back in Oslo!

The new exhibition, The Moth, by Nikolai Torgersen (b. 1990) consists primarily of large-scale paintings, a selection of photographs, and works on paper.

In recent years, Torgersen has established himself as one of the most distinctive, honest, and searching voices in Norwegian contemporary art and literature. Until now, his artistic journey has been inextricably linked to his personal life story—an uncompromising exploration of vulnerability, addiction, and existential pain, but also of forgiveness, transformation, and the search for light.

In The Moth, he steps away from the immediate biographical transparency and exposure that has previously dominated his work. Yet, Torgersen’s visual and artistic voice remains unmistakably his own in these new pieces.

The works in this exhibition are marked by a pursuit of beauty and a longing for the sense of security found in its presence. The paintings lean more toward abstraction than previously seen in his art. At the same time, the dreamlike and surreal thread that has always run through his work has been heightened, taking on a clearer form and expression.

Torgersen’s color palette is bold and playful, with brushstrokes alternating between the powerful and the delicate. The layers of paint appear at times transparent, at others like sheer veils, creating a fine balance with the paintings' strong physical presence.

This is an impressive body of work, with an artist evolving right before our eyes. Come and see for yourself!

We promise a great atmosphere and both guttural and rolling Rs in the gallery. The artist will be present.

Opening: Friday, October 23 18:00 – 21:00

The exhibition runs through Sunday, November 1. Closed Mondays; open all other days from

 12:00 to 19:00.

Address: Tjuvholmen Allé 23, 0252 Oslo
