Sarah Hilmer Rex (b. 1982) is a Danish artist based in Bergen. She is currently completing her Master’s degree at the Faculty of Art, Music and Design (KMD) in Bergen, yet she has already established a distinct and mature artistic vocabulary. Her work is characterized by a rare meticulousness and a profound interest in materiality. Through media such as painting, sculpture, and installation, she explores the domestic as both an idea and a physical reality.
Rex works with domestic artifacts such as textiles, toys, and furniture and is interested in how the home and its familiar surroundings can shift and be disrupted over time. In her works, she creates subtle disturbances of everyday objects, rendering the domestic simultaneously intimate, uncanny, and disorienting.
The representation of Rex supports the gallery’s ambition to showcase artists who combine high-level artistic craftsmanship with conceptual strength. We look forward to an exciting collaboration and to sharing her unique universe with our collectors and visitors.
One of Sarah Hilmer Rex’s works is currently on display at the Spring Exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen until May 10.
On August 21, we will open Rex’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, and we look forward to presenting her work to a wider audience.
